“Hi kiddo, that’s the world you hear because your ears work!” Cue the cool tunes because your baby can hear them now. It’s also about 4 ½  inches long and about the size of a grenade (avocados are boring).

There’s a lot of movement going on but seriously don’t worry about it if you can’t feel it yet. Many people don’t feel anything until they hit around 20 weeks so don’t freak yourself out – you’ll have a foot under your rib and a fist on your bladder before you know it. I found it felt like a little percolation at first like a little buzzing in one spot, but other sites compare it to butterfly wings fluttering, a “quickening”, gas bubbles or popcorn popping. Personally, I found I wasn’t really sure if I felt it the first few times because it’s so subtle.

As for you, how’s your nose? Some people suffer from nasal congestion during their pregnancy and it can be a royal pain in the ass. Once again, estrogen causes the mucous membranes in your nose to swell along with everything else, so it can cause congestion and even nosebleeds. So pretty.

Nasal strips can help a bit with sleeping at night, although, I’m sure they can help in the day too if you’re going for that certain “je ne sais quoi” look of walking around with a nasal strip on (please send photos). I also found some sites where people had great success with saline sprays, a little Vicks VapoRub rubbed at the base of your nostrils (CSI morgue style), drinking apple cider vinegar mixed with water, and sleeping with an extra pillow so your head is elevated.

If it becomes unbearable, there are some over the counter antihistamine medications that have been deemed safe for pregnancy. Loratadine, (Claritin) and Diphenhydramine, (Benadryl) seem to be the two that consistently get the thumbs up.

16 Weeks Pregnant Cheat Sheet:

  • Your baby is developing thicker skin and moving their arms and legs more (you probably still can’t feel it though).
  • Their heart is pumping blood and their circulatory system is getting into the swing of things.
  • Your baby is around 4 1/2 inches long (12 cm) and weighs about 4 ounces (110 grams).
  • You have around 168 days before you give birth.

How many months is 16 weeks pregnant?

Sixteen weeks is four months pregnant.

This week's to do:

Sibling Prep. If you have older kids, read up on the best ways to manage new baby introductions to make the transition smoother. How to Prepare Your Toddler for a New Baby and popular post about siblings.

Clean old gear. If you've been given come amazing hand-me-downs or have gear from older children, give it a good hose down. You can even have them professionally cleaned by places like Baby Quip. Check to make sure it hasn't been recalled (google the name with 'recall') and check for any loose or broken parts.

How are you feeling this week? Let me know here.
