Pregnant Chicken
Amy Morrison

Hi, I'm Amy Morrison – the broad behind the burd.

In my former life I was a creative director at a Toronto ad agency, but after two boys (born in 2006 and 2008) and a whole lot of time in the newborn trenches, I started Pregnant Chicken in 2010 with a fist shake and a very specific mission: I will help pregnant people and new parents navigate this, dammit.

What Pregnant Chicken is about

Pregnancy and early parenthood can feel overwhelming, and a lot of that is because nobody tells you the real stuff. The weird stuff. The "is this only happening to me?" stuff (it's not, I promise).

We cut through the medical jargon, help you figure out what baby gear you actually need, and talk openly about the things most people are too scared to Google. Our goal is simple: we want you to feel prepared and genuinely excited about having a baby, not just white-knuckle your way through it.

Doctors, midwives, lactation consultants, and L&D nurses are incredible (and many of them have written for us) but they're so deep in this world that they sometimes forget how completely foreign it can be for someone just starting out. That's where we come in.

Think of us as your pregnancy sherpas. It's a goat rodeo, but it's a great ride.

What we stand for

Honesty over hype. We tell you the good, the messy, and the hilariously unexpected because sugarcoating doesn't help anyone pack a hospital bag.

Empowerment over fear. Pregnancy can be overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be terrifying. We explain the why behind everything so you can make decisions that are right for you.

Humor helps. Sometimes you just need to laugh at the absurdity of it all. We're here for that too.

Evidence-based, human-explained. Anything medical gets run past actual doctors and credentialed experts and not just paraphrased from a scary forum. We update our content regularly to reflect current guidelines, and we write it like a friend who happens to know what she's talking about.

It takes a village

I learned pretty quickly that running this thing solo wasn't going to cut it — not if I wanted to keep the quality up and actually show up consistently for readers. So over the years I've brought in some genuinely amazing people: parents in the trenches, medical professionals, and writers who get what this community needs.

Every person who contributes to Pregnant Chicken is here because they give a damn and not because they need a byline.

You're in good company

We've been around long enough to earn a little street cred. Pregnant Chicken has been featured in:

Washington Post · Healthline · Medical News Today · Huffington Post · Scary Mommy · Very Well Family · BuzzFeed · Red Tricycle

Medical News Today called us "the wittiest, most comically written pregnancy blog" — which is honestly the review we're most proud of.
